LePera Bare Bones Solo Seat Review

User Rating:

The LePera Bare Bones Solo is the race car of motorcycle seats. It's minimalistic, lightweight and stripped down to the bare essentials all in the name of looks and style. This is the seat that we wish ALL seats could look like but most do not, and for good reason. We've run a Bare Bones Solo on our 2007 FXSTB for a couple of years now so we have plenty of seat time and thoughts to share.

Looks

There is no question, the LePera Bare Bones solo is a good looking seat on the FXST chassis, it simply hugs the frame and give the bike that low, lean and mean look that so many FXST owners crave. The fit and function is very good and the LePera hugs the frame nicely and follows the contours of your bike exactly as you want them. This is the closest looking thing you will find to a custom seat without actually ordering a custom seat. The only downside to the look of this seat is that the vinyl has a bit of "sheen" to it, meaning it's kind of shiny. Not any more so than other seats but we prefer the satin look that leather gives to a seat.

Ride Quality

The Bare Bones Solo is a seat that doesn't pretend to try and be something that it isn't. It doesn't even try to give you the impression that this is a touring seat of any kind, and it isn't. It's a great seat for around town riding or "bar hopping" if that is your thing, but get out on the open road and you will need a pretty solid rear end to stay on this seat for very long.

We don't use the FXST for long rides as it's more of a hot rod bike and we have an 09 Street Glide for the Touring thing, so for us the Bare Bones Solo works out fine. It's good for an hour or so before we need to get off and stretch but that time can diminish towards the end of the day and fatigue sets in. If you are a bit of an iron-butt type then your experience will vary of course, but in our opinion, this seat is perfect for around town but if you ride long distances regularly then we would look at different options instead.

We've had the Bare Bones on our 2007 FXSTB since the bike was new and it is still holding up strong, no tears, rips or worn spots and the foam still feels like the day we bought it, which isn't saying much.

Who Should Buy a LePera Bare Bones Solo

I think most riders know exactly what they are getting into when they buy a seat like the LePera Bare Bones Solo, so you shouldn't have any surprises with what I've written here. It's a moderately comfortable seat that looks like a million bucks and the trade-off of looks versus comfort is a decision you need to make for yourself. It's a great seat for around town cruising or hitting the bars with your buddies but if you are a regular on the touring scene, then this seat probably isn't the best choice.

The only one who can decide if the Bare Bones is the right seat for you, is of course, you. I will say this in closing, if I had to buy a seat for my FXSTB all over again knowing what I know now, I would still buy the same seat as it was exactly what I was looking for in a seat for my Night Train....sexy. Yep...I said sexy.

This seat rocks! It’s low, lean and mean looking and looks exactly like what I wanted on my 2008 FXST. What I wanted was the best looking, thinnest and lowest seat that would work on my bike and this was the best one I could find.

It’s not the most comfortable but I can ride for an hour or two without having to stop easily enough and I like to stop every once in a while anyways so the Bare Bones fit my needs perfectly.

    Definitely recommend it.
